Art and Yoga

 Awake

in an image dream

the cerulean blue sky

cracks hair-lines

letting whispers of ancient rules

speak to my surprise.

Fat over lean

i’d heard

say.

But scumble on over

the new water based oils

had said in pinks inside

bright teals

set in green-blue shades of

longing.

What

did I know?

I’d breathed the truth

and wanted to push it into

pigment.

Layered layers.

With peek-a-boo ridges

of the past.

Colors

who’d laid down their

binders for me.

I didn’t know

that

was my edge

I’d followed and fallen down

from.

Though

I do now.

Those hairline cracks upon my canvas

and that curling rising ridge

upon my edge

are

smiling at me now.

I don’t know

why.

But that’s ok.

It’s art I am I’m making.

Final Thoughts

for me, even when it flows, i still feel the effort of con-joining the art forms –

though, with practice, it has become easier at times

and “usually” quite satisfying 🙂

have you found it easy, or difficult, to express another arts activity in words? 😊

let me me know if you can, thanks!

  6. It’s art I am I’m making… always wondering if we really make art or if we just allow to flood what is in us to flood on the surface..a gentle rhythm to this..meditative..

    1. good question! maybe what we’re “creating” is that which is allowing the “flood what is in us to flood on the surface”

thanks so much claudia, ‘preciate you caught the intended gentleness 😉

  7. There’s a sense of breath flowing through here, the ebb and wane – and my first thought on reading with the title in mind (usually a second read for me, as I like to start with what the poem itself has to say) was “yeah, the art of yoga ~ the yoga of art.” Nicely done.

    1. thanks ruth, i really appreciate the reading, i do try and get a rhythm of an ebb and flow; almost force of habit from years of running, playing a wind instrument, and even, yes, yoga 😉

before i “grounded” this concept from doing breathing in yoga, i’d been “seeing” it in me when i ran, as in an older poem of mine from the early 90s, “cross country

i like the description of a good poem on your site – “The most important requirement of any poem is that it ends before the reader goes on to something else.” – pretty good!

you have material dating back to the 70’s also, that’s fantastic; some of those about relationships (male/female) seem particularly interesting http://zumpoems.com/2011/09/02/the-last-party-trivial-pursuit/

      thanks again 😉
