New watercolor figure work
Hi everyone! Further below I finally got the time to take a quick pic of some new 6×6 watercolor work I’m doing I’m liking very much, especially in terms of establishing a new direction.

I’ve done figure work before of course, since way back in the very early 80s in acrylic. Autumn Friends is a good example. I like all variations of styles, but’ve found myself, for my own work, doing more expressionistic, impressionist, even sketch like styles. There’s a handful more of examples of my figure work in my Fine Art America paintings gallery of images. They’re rare enough the 7 year old’ll say something like, “I didn’t know you could draw” when he sees one, lol 😂

As seen below, one is a variation of the painting at top of the page, and the other, a reclining abstraction, also from a photo I took of Sheila.

I start to want to “correct” or define portions of one, only to then see I don’t like it any better 😊 So I try to leave them along if I can. But still, they’re “almost” finished, but not quite. I see a little something here and there that bothers me. And once I can retake the top pic in better light, and do a closeup, you’ll be able to see lots of fun detail in the area around the figure.

And neither has been sprayed with fixative and varnished, and that’ll change them a bit more.

So some days I get what feels like a lot done on a painting, or prep work, or finish work, and other days I have to content myself with coating a new canvas with absorbent ground, or painting the sides of a finished piece.

The stay in place protocol the mayor (Austin) put in place, kinda helps, in the sense I’m not running off to the gym or store everyday, and even when I do go out for groceries (like today), traffic is so much better!

Plus my followup with my dr re my sinus & throat infection (yesterday) was via telemedicine! He ordered my a second round, as is usually the case most of my life with my allergy sensitivities. The new ones (got ‘em today at Walgreens) are for a couple days longer & 2x a day vs 1x.

So, despite projections that Texas is “the” or among the next virus hot spots, I’m hopeful.

I worry of course about family, many friends, and folks I don’t even know.

But I see signs to be hopeful of ❤️

Til then, stay well everyone!

    1. Some days almost grudgingly, but I feel so much better even if it’s just touching up a piece I’m not satisfied with, or other tiny things, and every once in awhile, one that seems more complete. Been loving seeing your work & so glad you’ve kept your productivity! ❤️

Good morning Felipe! Hoping you’ve a great day! Lovely work! Stay safe and home, it’s the best way to stay safe and end the pandemic. Here in Spain we are now on our 21st day of state ordered confinement, allowed out only to go to supermarket, you must show ticket to the police…but it’s a small sacrifice, Felipe, to stay safe and healthy. We don’t know when the order will be lifted but we are over the critical peak and cases are going down, as well as deaths, thank God, and more people are getting well. So I wish you all the best, health and tranquility,
Lots of love my friend from the Iberian peninsula! Stay well 😊

    1. Ya’ll are doing the right thing, Francisco! So important to flatten that curve, and so glad ya’ll are passing the critical peak. I’m afraid it’s going to get much uglier here than it already is. Our local TV shows pictures everyday of people congregating and not social distancing, but besides one errant person at the drugstore recently, everyone around one’s been very cognizant. Stay rested, yes, it’s a small sacrifice 💕

Hola Felipe, good to hear from you and I’m glad yer well. Staying home is the best way to fight this, by avoiding, the other measures and protocols are very important as well. We’re over the bump, thank God, but we will stay in government mandated confinement until 26 APR. The Military Police is patrolling the streets and they will pick up anyone who is breaking curfew and fining them anywhere from 600€-3.000€ and repeat offenders are getting jail time. This is serious and we must all cooperate because this virus… Like all viruses…needs a living host and if we stop the cv aim of contamination we can kill the virus, that is why we must all stay home and when we go to supermarket we must be disciplined and respectful and keep social distancing at all times. Here we are well disciplined as we have suffered in our land wars and major devastation in the past, civil war, WWI, WWII… Take good care of yourself and your family. All the best Felipe, un abrazo de España.

        1. Spain has a deep history my friend! I hope we don’t reach the stage where we need the military to reign in those willing to carry infection back to us, but we’ll see 😊 Meanwhile, we’re doing well, Francisco! Resting much more, that’s a blessing ❤️
