New Paris Paintings
I want to have been finished with these two, lol! But they’ve needed little touches.
The larger piece (20×20), Lady in Paris 1889, a true acrylic watercolor mix (a little more on that below) has needed tiny tiny touches to “unflatten” it so to speak. While the smaller 6×6 piece has needed quite a few varnish layers as the surface is too shiny in places and very matte in others. Anyone with suggestions re the latter please comment! 😊
It’s interesting to see both the scale and impact difference, totally differing moods I think, and not just because of color vs BW, there’s the clearness vs fogginess of the sky, the time eras they evoke, and of course, there is that difference between the mesh of blues vs the black/white/grey tones.
But I definitely like them both. And, ironically, which I didn’t expect, they both look better via photo than live I think, lol! Less blemishes and unevenness among the tones in either one. Yet, the real paintings naturally carry the tactile impact of real paint and real texture on real canvas ❤️
I may still add a light beam from the Eiffel Tower in Lady in Paris 1889, small but visible, but I haven’t decided yet.
This work was laid in with an acrylic blue (Liquitex Brilliant Blue) with a touch of blue watercolor (Blue Apatite Genuine via Daniel Smith) with a heavier watercolor to acrylic ratio in the darker lay-ins, plus, in touches here in there in the shadowed areas, the same latter mix with a touch of acrylic grey.
The latter grey is an unknown mix, as over time, when I was working more acrylics (late last year, earlier this year), I scooped up still wet unneeded acrylic paint and stored it in a small sealed container. It’s shifted tones and values over time while maintaining and growing into a very rich grey, lol!
Once finished-finished, I’ll need to decide whether it needs “fixing” via my Spectrafix spray, Mod Podge (recommended by artist Tiffany ARP-DALEO), or just leave it as is. We’ll have to see 😊
Paris Arm Chair View, the smaller work, is my more usual watercolor / white gouache mix on black absorbent ground.
I’ve been uploading my paintings onto Fine Art America in chronological order lately, at least those I hadn’t already jumped ahead and done previously, and both these two new works should be well done and finished and ready to upload by the time I get to the current time’s work stream.
Keeping me busy, that’s for sure – just have to be careful to leave time for fitness, eating, proper sleep, and time with important folks 💕
Stay creative, stay well, have fun as you can! ☺️
