Continuing with more new paintings I’ve recently set in motion, Angel appears to be a dark swirl but is actually hiding some carefully but casually placed masking fluid lines. I’ll be showing some detail shots of “Angel”‘s more recent state tomorrow, but am still working on the painting as a whole.

This particular masking fluid experiment is almost a direct descendant of an abstract study on paper I recently wrecked, lol! My post here tells how 😊 –

I’d mentioned in that post I’d felt that “accident” helped focus my attention on what I was doing more in general (it’s kinda funny), including my masking fluid design. That’s been a challenge for me dating back to when I was 1st using masking fluid on watercolor on absorbent ground (vs this painting on Golden’s light molding paste; this is the link to the one I bought – https://amzn.to/3jllMha).

On the good side, adding promise that this painting may actually be working out well, is that it’s predecessor, the image itself of Abstract Study 1, went on to being my most viewed image on Fine Art America for 2 weeks running!

Gonna hope the best for Angel also ☺️

  Both figures in the painting above and below are watercolors, though, Easy Morning is all watercolor on absorbent ground. Walking in Light’s paint, around the figure below, is acrylic; both the watercolor figure and remainder of my painting done on Golden’s Light Molding Paste. Golden has evidently been at improving acrylics a long time, as I learned in this post (with links to Golden’s article), and I can say that for me, working on their molding paste, in watercolor and acrylic, is a real treat!

  If it was an amazing process to see older photos and artwork show up on my most viewed list last week (and it was 😊) then this batch is incredible! Work from so many years have shown up, and such a variety!   This has been something I’ve toyed with and talked about for a bit now — finding / picking a detail fragment of an existing painting (or photo etc) from which to base new work on. And I shoulda caught on to how well this might work for me, in terms of creativity and viewership, with my success with a related project where I painted an abstracted detail from an existing painting to create a new related one. That happened with Abstract Study 1 shown at the bottom of this post.
