A Google search shows there’s some discrepancies among folks exactly when this iconic East Side Austin eatery came to be, evolving from a bakery to a cafe. But like a lot of Austin classics, it probably was shortly after WWII.
My own sense of what’s authentic Tex-Mex food is grounded on my two grandma’s, both home based in Brownsville, Texas; then via my Mom of course, through all the decades I spent growing up in Houston.
And food “authenticity” can definitely vary from region to region, city to city, even here in Texas – but I have to say, Cisco’s tacos this morning ( Monday ) were fresh, clean, tasty, and very close to my sense of home ❤️
By the time this post is up on WordPress ( Tuesday morning ) I should be up and getting ready for the movers to take the bulk and bulky of what Sheila and I call “ours” – or I should say, I better be up, lol!
But we’ll already be looking forward to our next impromptu visit to Cisco’s!
