the only thing that’s changed, is, in addition to my cousin and nephew i can thank for the insight of this poem, i can now add my brother-in-law’s grandson

Special Education
It’s not the
special training
or the special
inclination
to help
those hindered
that makes special
education so special.
It’s the special people
one is given
to spend special
time with.

Artist’s Comment: i was initially surprised at the depth of positive response to this writing, but shouldn’t have been; i have both a cousin and nephew i’ve learned much about the specialness entrusted or given to our lives at so many levels
primarily, as i’ve tried to express in this poem, the specialness stems from the person

if yoga has helped me realize anything, it’s how special we all are really –
just that some of us, those most innocent and dear and in need of care, ask, and bring, a specialness rare in life…
