This has been something I’ve toyed with and talked about for a bit now — finding / picking a detail fragment of an existing painting (or photo etc) from which to base new work on.

And I shoulda caught on to how well this might work for me, in terms of creativity and viewership, with my success with a related project where I painted an abstracted detail from an existing painting to create a new related one.

That happened with Abstract Study 1 shown at the bottom of this post.

What’s different here with these 2 new efforts, Heart Fragment & Approach, is I’m also featuring an outtake of each original painting’s detail as an available image for prints and gifts on Fine Art America, and then recreating a new work – on canvas (vs paper) as an independent yet related-to the original work 😊

Approach, is my detail to work from for another new painting, itself a detail crop from Autumn Passage.

I did start a 1st-go at Approach recently, thought I had my proportions right on, but was actually right-wrong, lol!

It’ll be a good 1st new original off the detail, but I can already tell I’ll probably give Approach (Approach 2 ?) a new, 2nd shot later.

Basically, even though definitely a good idea for me for generating new alternative work w/a related look to existing work, there’s actually another learning — that of actually looking at my own work with a better eye for what it’s saying to me. I’ll take that as a good thing 😊
