I hadn’t realized til recently that photographing and presenting an accurate appealing image of my paintings could be almost as difficult at times as creating my work. Part of this is due to my increasing use of varied paint layers, of differing expanses of surface coverage, from tiny grading touches to sweeps of both stumbles and even ridges of colors, often using 2 or more brush sizes.
My intent, when applying these variations of sizes and densities of layers is, unfortunately, whether by whim or a more driving desire, is mostly intuitive and unpredictable, even to myself. If I have one conscious notion, it’s to reach a point of pleasurable peace. At times I can even feel it in my eyes. They rest. They smile. I guess I should say I smile, lol 😊
The chore then is producing as authentic visual representation as possible. My solution now is to 1st get as accurate as possible an image seen at its best to my current abilities and lighting will allow. But as importantly I’ve found, is to occasionally also display my work in a variety of lighting and setting variations. After all, many of have pictures in spaces with side lighting by a window or across a wide room with windows a bit distant, and of course every variation architecture and happen-chance provides! So I more & more try to provide a few lighting variations captures to give an idea how a particular painting may appear in differing lighting.
