“old galvez town” – original poetry

***

a poem of perseverance, galveston island is a slip of land a few people slip themselves into –

sometimes, to themselves presevere, sometimes simply to preserve something precious maybe-unsaid within themselves

the pirate jean lafitte is said to have made himself at home here

it’s a yoga kinda place, with the only current yoga studio in town aptly named, the yoga haven

great place actually 😉 an ancient art housed in an ancient building on an ancient island

Old Galvez Town

Ancient

sand dune

stretched wide

by the naked flesh

eaters.  Modern day

sun watchers, cruising

the seawall, offering

bargain coconut scents.

A feast for the pale

hordes lost from

denser land.

And when the old

homes quake, shaking

their tall antennae, when

the sea throws a hurricane,

the ancient island also

rises – clothing and

preserving the

naked soul

with

its own

salty truth.
