One More Vermont Header Image
my wife and i thought we would be gone from vermont at this time, but our departure delay due to hurricane sandy has us staying in my wife’s beautiful home state just a little longer
vermont, unlike stretches and areas of my home state, texas, seems to have few areas one couldn’t say was beautiful, or at least nice to look at
the state is like one giant postcard 😉
even in the dreariest of times, this remains so; whether it’s because this is new to me, or is more generally so for most anyone, this is another great example –
my previous header image, of the peak of fall foliage up near stowe at smuggler’s notch, was an easy one, though involving fantastic luck getting to that image’s spot at the right moment before it was gone
this image, in mid autumn here, also very near stowe, at one of the trapp family lodge’s dining spots, is of the lull between the colors of fall and the snows of winter – yet, for me, still a beauty

The Cropping Challenge
in this instance, my task was choosing between a higher or lower horizontal line in my cropping
one click higher, and my focus swept away from the trees and old wood structure to the mountains –
one click lower, and i felt a great sweep up the land to the tree line, but lost the sense of power from the mountains in the background –
so this header is a compromise i’m satisfied with: clarity of the trees and farmhouse cafe, and enough visibility of the mountains to see the fog-cloud rolling over some of the tops

The Exposure Setting Challenge
then, adjusting the exposure setting of the foreground (grass, trees, and building) while differently adjusting what i wanted to show in the sky and mountain slopes, took some experimentation with photoshop’s exposure tool, including the brush tool set to a history setting –
all in all, a fun creative project 😉

Prayers for Those Suffering Because of Hurricane Sandy
finally, as i enjoyed my creative work in a temporary and quite comfortable setting, i know from past experience the suffering many are feeling trying to manage to get through the increasingly cold wet weather, often without power and other needs – our prayers to all
and for those who have lost loved ones, which i have not had yet to experience from a storm, my deepest possible prayers
best wishes to all….
