I’m in a less than two hour deadline (cause I couldn’t get my stuff together since Tuesday to do this sooner, lol) to post this to dVerse Poets’ weekly prompt for first time in many years.
I’ll update this page with much more info soon re my prev poetry posts on dVerse here on this site (dating back to 2011!) plus lots of neat links to info on dVerse’s site.
Meanwhile here’s my poem to this week’s poetry prompt, “write a poem about or tangential to your element.” Mine is air/Libra —
here goes —
Libran Air
(sometimes only the moment can be in focus)
Sometimes
between winter’s sodden thud and
summer’s southern wilt
between the sun shift shadows carried by
whiffs of breeze
between gauzy sadness and laughter
as clear as children’s eyes
the soul chooses the moment when the
wheel will spin no more
having found its focus for the fullness of that
life —
I chose Libra
Sometimes wondering if I should tester or
just totter toward my
neighboring signs
or tiptoe toward my polar opposite
and say hello
(my moon sign says no stay with me 😊 )
But I never really know
till – again – I find that point of shifting
balance
where only the very moment before me,
cycling as it may with the circling sun,
is my focus
once again….

P.S. Welcome back to dVerse. I haven’t been here long, but I love the atmosphere at the dVerse pub. Hoping you’ll be sipping up often at the bar. Cheers!

Your word combination choices are poetry aside from your content. It brings your poem to life. What you talk about here reminds me of “the balancing” in life, which a person can only glimpse from time to time as being the focus you talk about.

Thank u so much for ur kind words! ☺️ The balancing seems like the perfect word duo! Only in moments because we’re so often in motion I think 🙂

There’s a lot of freedom in the air, don’t you think? Floating around space and time and touching down in this life or that, focusing on the nearest star when you need to be static and form relationship with the other elements. And I simply love the metaphor of “gauzy sadness” as that is a main temptation of we airy ones: extended isolation.
Thanks so much for participation, Felipe, and I hope to see you back again!

‘Sometimes only the moment can be in focus’ you’re dead right! 😉

It’s like sometimes that’s all we can do, and if we can do that, we know it might be the only chance we have of making it through it – sometimes surprised there was something particularly very neat about that moment we hadn’t / couldn’t realize while in it. ‘Least that’s what happens to me sometimes, lol! 🙂

Grace, so glad to hear ur thoughts 🙂
Yes, been wanting to participate again for awhile; at close to 70 I’m busier (but also happier) than beginning of the decade, lol! Between moving this month, enjoying our fifth grandchild (age 6 now), and wanting to get back to painting – it’s been a pleasurable stretch getting this writ and participating. Hope to do so again in the (this time) nearer future 🙂
