About My Product Reviews

In general, like my movie & TV reviews, I don’t do negative reviews. However, since these are products I personally use, I may mention or review products that don’t fit their apparent purpose.

Generally, I think it’s more productive to steer folks toward stuff I like or thought was really good (sometimes that’s the same thing, sometimes not quite 😊)

I do often say what might/could be better, or I’d rather’ve seen or experienced, but in the context of why I liked the product enough to buy or try it.

Thanks everyone – Adan

My review title is —
Exceptionally useful, motivating, and entertaining!

Not often an instructional work of any kind is simultaneously so helpful, garners my enthusiasm to get going, and is so much fun to watch! Wish I could say I saw it in one sitting, but I didn’t. Would watch a it before sleep, then a bit more the next morning; but over a few days could feel and see her influence as I begin experimenting / transitioning from water based oils to acrylics to watercolors. Am going to search out more from her! Highly recommend, and honestly, will want to watch again 😊

This is one of those rare instructional works that gave me the sensation of wanting to savor it, lol! Delicious in the colors and nuances of creating art!

For someone more experienced in watercolors than I am, ie, anyone with more than a week or two sporadic exposure, this may seem more like beginner’s enchantment than a true look at the value of instruction.

But for a beginner, and someone who loves seeing the magic of colors and shapes happen, it was, yes, definitely, delicious ❤️

Not counting my recently begun acrylic wash experiments, below is my 1st watercolor since a very aborted attempt in the late 70s, lol!

The yellow in the image is my watercolor contribution to my in-progress – maybe done (‘cept for a few touch ups plus the isolation layer and varnish) – 6×6 experimental acrylic painting (on a 1” inch deep gallery wrap canvas).

    1. You too, Kirt! All the best for the new year & decade! 😊 And just curious, have you done any watercolors? I’m just tiptoeing into them, after a very aborted attempt back in the late 70s, lol! 😊

      1. Funny you should ask that….working on some stuff as we speak….digital, but I’m pretty picky about creating something that truly looks like an actual watercolor….

        1. Gotta be a challenge for sure! Do you paint sometimes too? My own digital work is too sporadic to predict, lol!

          1. My drawing and painting with a brush abilities are limited to poor cartoonish creations. LOL!! I am very visual so can picture what I want, but my hands don’t quite follow. I was saved when digital art came to fruition and took classes at San Diego State for photoshop.

            1. I think digital saved a lot of us, lol! It carried me through some deep painting droughts & even now is a huge source of visual inspiration for me & has finally come into its own as one of my preferred art forms. And it definitely shows off your visual creativity! 😊

  11. Cool! Watercolor is one area I have never really explored and I would love to learn more, I will check it out!

    1. That would be so neat, Tiffany! I think with your extensive work w/acrylics you’ll slide right into using them! And from what I saw (peeking at one of your posts I still haven’t gotten to), esp one of your earlier works with trees in the background (lady in white in the foreground), the Tiffany-glass like look among the trees (sorry, no pun intended, lol!) you could “really” do something neat using both mediums! Little I’ve read so far (and tested on 1 6×6) combining the 2 is supposed to be “able” to let one combine watercolor’s transparent brilliance, with Acrylics’ stronger pigment! 😊

  12. I’ll recommend the watercolor book to someone I have in mind. Thanks for the review Felipe. I love prescrptive how-to books for writers and painters when the author is exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced..

    1. Soan, it turns out, is even more well know and prolific w/both her work and her instructional books/cds/videos than I’d expected. Already ordered a used paperback edition of her watercolor flowers 🌸 book 😊 Thanks so much, David!
