I wanted to do more on this but things are happening re Covid, in my life. I’ll have more on this very soon – nothing w/me or family here in Austin (despite horrid #s lately), but nearby, also here in Texas.
Wonderful how fluid and flexible art is, giving us challenges one day, inspiration on another, and solace even when needed. I’m writing this late on Monday, and today (Monday) – cleaning the lines free of smears in the as yet waiting while areas, and adjusting edges on my figure’s dress – soft solace was what I sought and found.
I’d read that one can add touches of watercolor one’s acrylic paint, adding pigment brilliance, and the dominant acrylic will solidify it with itself, eliminating the need for fixing the colors after. Not totally sure how true that is, or what proportions, but it felt nice adding some Daniel Smith New Gamboge to my acrylic mix of gold and white with dabs of water.
Be interesting if I can retain the more watercolor-like tone and feel as I add more colors 😊
Wish me luck ya’ll! And stay well, best way we can contribute right now! ♥️

[…] So that’s a real treat!I was also realizing this week, preparing this post and working on my 16×20 acrylic line art figure in a landscape work, Testing the Water, there is some discernible thread in my work the last year or so of including more and more figure […]

I hope all’s well there!!
You’re sculpting a person, with color! Love it! (I mix all kinds of things in acrylics – watercolor crystals, ink, ground pastels, etc. It’s exciting to experiment! The Brush-O crystals gave lots of additional pigmentation.) 👏👏♥️👏👏

That’s such incredible versatility, Robin! What are watercolor crystals? Are the Brush-O crystals that?

Hi, Felipe! They’re little pots of crystals/powder pigment. I got mine on the Blick art site, a smaller set. I’ve included an Amazon link for you at the end of this reply. The crystals are VERY saturated watercolor pigments in little plastic pots. You can add them to water & mix them to make watercolor paint. Or they can be sprinkled on a water wash, then the crystals break down on their own, into fascinating shapes, etc. I’ve dipped a wet brush into some crystals, too, and gotten fun results. But I’m not a watercolor person (not enough patience, I guess) so my favorite thing to do with them is to add them to acrylics (paint, ink) and watch them add their colors, breaking down – or not! – however they want. Bottom line: they’re crystallized watercolor pigments that you can do practically anything with. https://www.amazon.com/Brusho-Colourcraft-Color-Crystal-Colour/dp/B004EBIUW6

I’ll have to check Amazon (Blick has a minimum for free shipping), but Buick’s page for Prussian Blue shows some really nice potential ( https://www.dickblick.com/items/brusho-crystal-colour-prussian-blue-15-g-pot/ ) – thanks so much, Robin! 😊
