Part of my wife’s Facebook repost of my original FB post – https://www.facebook.com/100002903977755/posts/4568525846587503/

Well, we were definitely younger then, lol! But I think if we went to the right events nowadays, we’d have just as much fun at SXSW now as then 😊

The picture above and below are at the same venue, the Palm Door, one our youngest girl was event-managing back then on 6th Street. The guy below – of whom the 9 year old, when he saw the picture, said, “Who is that!” ❤️ – is actually a vendor, cigarettes or such, can’t remember now, lol!

Outside, up pic, it was buzzing with voices, but we could hear each other; inside, pic below well, good luck with that – though the music literally filled the air!

And below is a poem I wrote for a 2008 blog post about SXSW ( South by ) on a site before this one, one I’ve had since 2011. If I’d known better, I would’ve carried over that blog onto this one – but learning is one of our more underrated less appreciated skills, I think ☺️

The location-memory is the original Antone’s location downtown; where I youngest girl was full time night event manager at the time —

SXSW 2008 – I Live Here

(South by)

South by  –

the nights are long.

Something’s gotta be shortened.

Nighttime-size crowds lighting

the day  –  evenings pulse

with the rush to play.

Sounds

round every corner, rolling down alleys

asking directions in driving ballads

melodic rushes while bicycle surreys seek Antones

the Continental Club and Auditorium Shores.

Music sings both sides of the river.

Alejandro Escovedo, ya no es escondido.

Bands bands bands from everywhere everywhere.

“John Smith”  “American Graveyard”  “Del Castillo”

The girls all pleasure-smiling,

so much…appreciation.

“I came to hear the music”

“Baby, we are the music.”

“Where you from?”

“Baby, I live here….”

Sound bounces off the new buildings,

down the old Colorado River – refreshed

hearts stirring new songs…

til the next new dawn.

There were other times, and other memories, but at least I have some concrete things to show for 2008 & 2014, lol!

Stay safe everyone – even at these wonderful memory filled events and times in our lives 💕

    • It was really nice digging up those photos; for being folks who haven’t much places or done much really, I can’t believe the times and places we’ve clocked in – I guess it’s really all ’bout the memories we made 💕 Thanks, Robin 😊
