“A New Winter in an Old Winter Haunt”

the black raven-winged bird, still plump

from the past seasons’ fullness

nipped at the winter twigs

remembering

knobs and nubs and where

a favored berry

once grew

*

the other birds nearby, not nearly

as plump, not nearly as

knowing

of where treasures of thrown trash –

barely eaten burgers, a few

fries

were hidden, but easily found

nipped at every change of light on each branch

*

the old bird chuckled and cawed quietly

if they ask, he thought, i’ll tell them

if not, they’ll find their own

that’s what he did

though he

nearly starved that one winter

until the walking creatures opened a new

taco stand nearby –

yes, he thought, nature provides….

Getting Back to Healthy – Yes, It’s a Process 😉

going from teaching 2 to 5 fitness classes per week, through to the end of oct last year, then traveling to stowe, paris, houston, and back here in austin, even with doing daily walks, and intermittent chair based exercise sets, plus getting sick! has left sheila and myself at a point where, resuming a more daily chair based routine, and including weights, elastic bands, etc, has been a reminder how much the body needs to be worked to stay in fluid enjoyable order 😉

my next post, barring the usual unknowns, is to do a fitness review –

as much for sheila and myself as anyone interested 😉

stay healthy and happy everyone!

For a Texas guy like me, this was a marvel of an experience. There’d been this one red berry bush that’d survived all winter, and one day, mid-morning, first one, then two, then the rest of the group of Robins appeared, and ate every single visible berry from sight, lol!

There is SO much and SO many fun things to browse for and get related to Austin, but I felt this was a nice starting point – Texas & Austin themed wine glass markers! Description says includes, “wine ring, glass bead, metal charm, love” – set of 6 nice 👍

  2. If only the younger could learn from the older, wiser survivors. I enjoyed the characterization of the birds. Doesn’t feel much like winter here in south Texas though. Thank you for your visit and comment on my blog.

speaking of non-winter, we went from temps below normal since mid-sept, to, since we moved back to texas, maybe record heat of over 80 today (here in austin) whew!

  4. That wise old bird waiting to be asked 🙂 Nature provides – in the form of the food that we waste.

    1. always am amazed how nature makes riches of the so-called waste, tiny plants in old lava flows etc; just tickled me how the birds and other critters use anything we chunk out; thanks so much 😉

  5. Very charming poem, Adan. Note that your link didn’t seem to work quite right on dVerse. You may want to check and link again. (I got here, but not initial click.)

    1. so true, much can be provided and encouraged, but it takes a two-way effort to finally get it to happen; life is so much about that interplay i think; thanks brian 😉
