Ruminating Surrounded by Art

There is something akin I think, going outdoors among the trees and flowers, oceans and mountains, and resting inside surrounded by conscientiously created art.

I’ve felt that in children’s art festivals at libraries and schools and city halls.

I’ve sensed it in churches and certain cities where art blurred the boundary of being inside or out and all, well, all just was – like Paris. The way I imagine Rome and Madrid must be.

That’s how I felt in the gallery today at the Old Bakery. And how I felt looking at my own bin of prints of places I’ve been and wish to be in again.

That’s my unsolvable problem.

I want and need to be in so many wonderful places I’ve – it seems – barely been to.

But looking at my memories in pigment, my remembrances in pixels –
I realize I need to do something more with my images.

I wish I could say I have an idea, or a plan.

No, it’s worse than that – I’m consumed with plans and ideas, lol!

It’s been a rough 50 years since I shot my first photo, a BW of my oldest girl in her crib, holding herself up with tiny hands, pursing her lips and grinning. I know that photo’s somewhere… 😊

But my point is, from shooting pictures with film with cameras that used real bulbs that smoked and fumed and had to be tossed hot from the hand to shoot again – to fuzzy less than 1 mb internal storage digital cameras the size of a watermelon 😂 – to so much capacity I could see how easy it might have been easy to lose perspective of what I liked, what appeared fun and worth preserving – opportunities beyond photo albums and craft shows and giving away art to auctions and churches have emerged.

Limited Editions were a bridge between photos and paintings.

Increasing value by scarcity.

I’m not sure I need to do that anymore. Want it anymore.

Not at this time.

Not with my desire to show what I’ve created.

But how will I begin?

Again….

A Personal Note

Had to smile at my notation above, “A Personal Note” – thinking to myself how personal my ruminations were 😊

This personal note is simply to say how nice it was to see so many of the artists I’ve met over the past year+ since I started showing at the Old Bakery. Lots of “Howya doing?” and “My trees are all wilting, but you looking good, lol!”

It was good to see other old folk not only hanging on but thriving and glad to be about! It’s good for the soul. It’s good for one’s art.

And that makes one more reason for aging gracefully 😊
