January 05, 2021 – Monet’s Garden April Rain in Giverny, Photo to Oil to Watercolors through Three Decades, Part 2

Yesterday I posted the original photo-poster version for my painting above, and this morning I uploaded both the photo-only (w/out the poster format) and my oil painting interpretation (see above) of the scene.

Plus this morning I got a very nice boost in feeling about my painting, how I felt about it anyways 😊, via Rob Brezsny‘s FreeWill astrology forecast for my sign, Libra, for this week.

Horoscopes, in general, like politicians, have to be evaluated individually I think, lol – but Rob’s are nearly always on target with a positive focus, and with the focus so squarely on the value of Beauty beyond the superficial, but rather integral to our deepest selves in the universe, I gladly took it! ❤️

The painting itself sold long ago in my only New York show. Sheila was there with me and it was a treat – probably of my lifetime, at least in terms of shows – we shared and enjoyed together. The blog post linked to in this paragraph features another work I sold there, to a buyer in California, San Antonio Riverwalk.

It was a testament to the magic of the finished painting, or maybe to the magic of the feeling I felt when I painted it, having seen the beauty of Monet’s garden firsthand, that it even sold. Never having shipped art work before, I did the best I could, but several paintings arrived with damaged frames and, this one work, of Monet’s garden in Giverny, was ripped. And still a buyer insisted he wanted it. Against his wishes I gave him a discount. I was just so grateful he still wanted it 💕

So, meanwhile, back to today’s mini-series post on the development of my interest in this image over two+ decades, from photo to painting to poster to new watercolor sketches (in-progress) to, eventually, some digital experimentation (which sometimes leads to another original!). Tomorrow I’ll take a break from this little series to actually paint, lol! And post about a running joke I have with one of my fitness instructors about excuses for not wanting to come to class, but going anyways ☺️
