First, I did work on my previous in-progress post’s work, Butterfly Starburst, adding some grey-greenish lighter tone streams to the white streams on the left side of the painting. I’ll give my eyes a rest from it, see it new in a few day, then see if maybe it’s done 😊
Second, regarding the iffy title, lol! I’d intended this to be a stand-alone painting, saw it morph from more a female abstract to a male abstract, and decided, nope, not gonna trim / curve the figure more than what it is; I “may” horizontally invert the figure and do a companion piece – thus, Duet! I usually, wish me luck, but this time I gotta say, wish me a few buckets of that good stuff!
So here’s the visual progression, with a touch of the paint-brush blow-by-blow involved ☺️
Below, is both my sketch and lay-in of light molding paste.
Then, below, is my side-shot view catching the masking fluid once I’d applied; and my 1st thought was, too busy!
But, as usual, I figured I could adjust/change that if still needed. I think I was about 1/2 right 😏
Then below is my 1st paint lay-in, and my 1st thought here was, I needed to clean up the figure’s edges – and – though not too busy yet, the figure, once the masking fluid would be removed, I knew would be too busy for my liking.
But once again I figured I could still “fix” that (too busy), and the figure’s edges.
I’d be more right on the latter than the former I think 😊

I was gonna clean up curve-up the figure’s edges back to my preferred female lines, but decided maybe an inverted (left to right) similar image, with those changes, might be kinda fun 🎨 👩🎨
I’ll admit, part of me wants to “correct” the above figure, especially the place and elongation of the head; but another part of me says, this is what came out – honor it, let’s see what I can make of it, let’s see what final impress I can make of it overall.
Once I have the lay-in of titanium white on the figure, I’ll know a little more how that goes. Meanwhile, I’ll probably opt to start the “duet” partner piece sometime very soon, just to get a handle on it. Oh, and so I won’t totally chicken out on the idea, lol!
That’ll also give me time to consider if and how much/many of the white “accents” around the figure I want to keep. I still remember the impact I felt the painting had before I peeled away the masking fluid. Sometimes that works (using masking fluid for accents), and sometimes it doesn’t —
Ain’t creativity fun? 😊 ❤️

Below, a book I’m thoroughly enjoying reading right now (late 2021); incredibly well written historical overview of the 1930s through (I’m guessing) the 1950s. Historical in regard to the wars, depression, the social/sexual mores, and of course – the art 💕
