On what would have been my mom‘s birthday today, I became aware of it also being National Poetry Month, and I thought – this fits. Feels right 💕

My Mom Was Is a Poem

My mother was a beam of light
bouncing smiles into our shadows
as we learned to walk then speak then
drive
thinking we were free spirits akin to air
held by no one, but irresistible to everyone
a light
inside us illuminating
everything we touched, everyone we saw.
We
thought we were discovering
ourselves to others.
We
thought we were,
well,
just were.
Things of nature.
Like stars overhead at night.
Like breezes felt suddenly
cooly, like shade
in days
so
hot our eyes quit focussing.
Yes
my mom was a beam of light.
Always there.
Never far.
And
I feared she was always gone.
But my mom is a beam of light.
And
I see her in the brightest light and darkest night
part of every rainbow in my heart…
A prayer, a poem….

Stay well everyone! 🙏 ☺️
