August 28, 2021 – (Still) Experimenting Developing Figure Sketches, Tentative Title: Woman Walking Dogs 1

Wanted to place the new top image next to the two competing figure line art studies I’d included as a side so to speak in a previous post w/the youngest grandchild (thus the “continued” part of this post’s title 😊 ) but the gallery shot image option for my post compressed the side by side initial studies too much. This should still work though, with the new image top & prev 2 studies below) to show where I borrowed from both studies to make one I’m much happier with.

I chose the left side of the initial 2 studies, despite needing to redo the lady’s arms a bit on the sides where they touched her body, because the rest of her torso and esp her legs really appealed to me the way the lines moved.

The doggies were both improved, with more elements from the right side drawing; the lady’s hair gained a touch of the line work also from the right side; and the right side’s top right sky area was copied and pasted over the erased same area of the left side image – plus ditto the top left of the sky (the two sky areas done separately from each other as their placement and final sizing differed). All digital work was via Affinity Photo.

I’m gonna let this one sit a bit, as I’m still inclined to work on the new Greenbelt watercolor, Woman and Child (still in the figure art only stage). And, wanted to add, saw a YouTube video I thought was very helpful regarding watercolor painting figures by Liron Yanconsky, someone new to me. He actually showed his drawing in his figures and how he created light & shade. I think he may join my other fav teachers I like to see work and pointers like Dianne Mize and Hazel Soan ; we’ll see, but it does show how and what I might could where I left off with my figure study for the lady (which included a dapple-light-like value study) 😊
