In general, like my movie & TV reviews, I don’t do negative reviews. However, since these are products I personally use, I may mention or review products that don’t fit their apparent purpose.

Generally, I think it’s more productive to steer folks toward stuff I like or thought was really good (sometimes that’s the same thing, sometimes not quite 😊)

I do often say what might/could be better, or I’d rather’ve seen or experienced, but in the context of why I liked the product enough to buy or try it.

Episode 9, Line & Wash, A Whole New Creative Avenue For Me & The 6 Year Old!

Most anything watercolor is very new to me. And though I’ve painted in acrylics since the 80s, then water soluble oils since 2000, line work – esp ink – on a painting then painting over it, is totally new. Episode 9 (of ten in the series) stood out so much to me I watched it first, lol! I have since since the short Episode 1 with basics about washes, and definitely plan on others in the series, like #2, Understanding Tone (tonal contrasts & value spread).

What I particularly liked about Peter’s presentation of creating with line and and wash in watercolor (beyond finding out the basics to begin with) is how he presented the exploration of the topic to the me, as a viewer.

First, he presented starting with a line drawing, followed by wash applications, then a back & forth to a finish work. Secondly, he showed starting with a wash, then working in the line drawing (where it fit the wash & where it deviated); again to a finished work. Third, blended using the two from the beginning, adapting colors to lines, and lines to colors (often filling in with new objects – like, in this case, sheep in a landscape).

I was impressed enough I encouraged our youngest grandchild, who loves to both draw and paint, but not necessarily together, to give it a go! He was thrilled! The proof in the pudding as they say 😊
