Another of my paintings so hard to accurately capture. Noise reduction etc’s been applied, but still doesn’t convey the softness and depth of this little piece.
There’s actually a lot about Ridges of Spring Light I don’t understand or know yet.
Method
It was my 2nd almost literally stab at slipping watercolor onto one of my new absorbent ground 6×6 inch canvases. My 1st try, Bird’s Eye View (now sold), was more cautious, although that’s relatively speaking, lol!
Ridges of Spring Light is less cautious in the sense that I followed one of the many suggestions I found for applying watercolor via this new substrate — I first literally washed the surface with brush strokes loaded with water, tilted the canvas, and started applying colors I liked, letting gravity pull both the water and pigments down the surface.
Huge areas of the tiny 6×6 square inch surface immediately washed out into thin coats, so I panicked and added much thicker pigment brush loads, my brush still very wet as was the canvas surface and again the colors bled down, but this time small areas and clumps of stronger color remained in spots.
I grabbed one of my toothpicks and pulled lines out of the paint to simulate flowers or growth, and very luckily (cannot claim an ounce of wisdom here) left some white ground areas untouched.
Isolation Coat
When dry, I brush applied Golden’s Clear Soft Gel as an isolation layer, and like my 1st painting, saw a bit of color change, but not much, and again, also a bit of texture loss.
I’ve since decided some (not all) of these works, esp those predominately in watercolor vs acrylic, are best done with a spray isolation coat. I’ve since bought a can of Spectracfix and practiced my 1st isolation spray (original before spraying seen bottom of this post) and can say it’s a huge improvement over brush applying the isolation coat – I’ll have a full post on that soon. Acrylic works I believe will still be able to be done via a brush on method. We’ll see 😊

Unique Visual Quality of This New Abstract – Works on Many Sizes & Shapes! ❤️
Most of my images, photos and original works, are perfect on at least one or two products Fine Art America offers. Once in awhile a few pieces work on a lot of the products. This piece, Ridges of Spring Light, seems to work with just about anything! Commercial licensing folks – you listening, lol! 😊
I’ve only showing a handful of items below. There’s much more this new work looks great on – shower curtains, phone cases, not to mention the full image as a metal or canvas print!
I know this is kinda bragging, but believe me, I fully acknowledge and gladly accept how fortunate I was to create, and keep, this gorgeous new image intact 😂 It is currently available at the Old Bakery & Emporium, or if you live outside of Austin, directly from me, for $49.00, continental U.S. Priority Mail shipping included 💕 —
