Three Weeks Worth of Exploring šŸ˜Š

Give or take, itā€™s been about 3 weeks since I started my experiment learning to use Amazonā€™s Affiliated Marketing opportunity.

And give or take, thereā€™s some important things Iā€™ve learned, one of which is how much more I have to learn, lol!

Note: Importance in my list below is ranked strictly by what Iā€™ve become aware of at any given moment, rather than – from a more experienced view – what has the most long term impact or importance.

So, in no particular order this time around šŸ˜Š here goes:

  • Like trying on new and different clothes, even those one likes, it sometimes takes a little getting comfortable being seen in public with them! Each day I find myself more at ease finding ways to insert an Affiliated Marketing link or image. That I pick what images and links to showcase has been instrumental growing my comfort level.
  • Picking images of products I havenā€™t used (yet) to showcase is actually fun for me, and I often pick something thatā€™s eye-appealing to me AND has reviews or features I find comfortable pinpoint-featuring.
  • Doing the code and selection/placement work of pinpointing products takes time and work. I have to really like the potential of the product, or have used it, to showcase the full package Iā€™d like with an image ad: image, written title, and a text link (the image usually also has a link embedded).
  • Learning where to add an unobtrusive search link is easier than Iā€™d thought, but, changes post to post since I write for content interesting to me ā€” mostly the arts, senior fitness, and aging gracefully.
  • Getting fancy with all sorts of neat plugins that automate some of the above, plus some of my other manual additions, like choosing which of my posts since 2011 are related, is – at this time, for me – too expensive. So slow and easy is my path, perfect for a nearly 69 year old, lol!
  • Becoming aware of non-working Affiliate links is critical. Luckily, WordPress has a way for me to see which links, of any kind, are being click, and I can then see if they went where they were supposed to. Potentially time consuming, but less consuming than if someone wants to buy one of my books, or see my art on eBay or Fine Art America, or check out my products on Amazon, or even read one of my related posts! šŸ˜Š But – I donā€™t always know which post the link came from. So please, if you find a broken link, please let me know, preferably in the comments where Iā€™ll be sure to see it – thank u so much!

Obviously – to anyone already doing Affiliated Marketing –
Iā€™ve a long way to go learning.

Thatā€™s ok.

Same thingā€™s true creating art, writing stories.

And, especially true keeping myself healthy and fit ā¤ļø

What would help me most right now, is –

Hmmm - I must be searching for something šŸ˜Š

If you find any link of any kind that doesnā€™t work, please let me know in the comments. Itā€™s the most surest way Iā€™ll get your alert.

Thanks so much!

My ā€œmarketingā€ search did bring up some potentially interesting books, like, ā€œThis Is Marketing: You Canā€™t Be Seen Until You Learn to Seeā€ via Seth Godin, and, ā€œThe Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Differenceā€ by Malcolm Gladwell.

My next step was to look at Amazonā€™s own ā€œRelated searchesā€ image-list with text guidelines at the bottom of the 1st page of search results for my above ā€œMarketingā€ search – Whew! I almost ran out of mental-breath saying all that to myself as I wrote it, lol šŸ˜‚

Anyway šŸ˜Š and one should keep in mind this would probably change as per Amazonā€™s reading of whatā€™s hot and whoā€™s looking – these are among whatā€™s then offered for further related searches:

And donā€™t forget, images are also links šŸ˜Š

Thanks so much everyone!

  1. […] And most recently I realized I could combine what I do here on my site with products I offer on Amazon – linking to my photo and poetry and fiction books, plus commenting on products I actually use and those I think would be fun to have or try – thus my decision to apply to be an Amazon Affiliate! I even got enough traction in to do an update! […]

  2. Great research notes, thank you for sharing all that you are learning! It does require so much time, which I do not have right now, but someday I hope to follow in your footsteps and get more ambitious selling my work!

    1. Thatā€™s very kind of you to say, Tiffany! But Iā€™m just plodding along doing stuff I like šŸ˜ŠSomeone much younger than me & w/more tech savvy would eat through all this and know right away if it was worth it for them or not; but for me itā€™s fun learning about this w/out feeling (as I would have much younger) that I ā€œhadā€ to do this and do it in a certain way and in a certain time frame. Iā€™ll be sure to keep folks posted šŸ˜Š

    1. I hope so, though I think as the process unfolds & if I can document it clearly & honestly enough along the way, itā€™ll be of even more use – for trying it or not, lol! Beyond that, I think thereā€™s that possibility someoneā€™ll read the process of posts and see a parallel to some entirely other project in their lives – the trying to understand nuances of whatā€™s happening, tinkering with possibilities, weighing whatā€™s worth continuing to do & why, including that the project either simply is or isnā€™t worth the time and energy…itā€™s ok to persevere, and itā€™s ok I think to say, thatā€™s enough šŸ˜Š
