November 24, 2021 – Working on Paintings; In-Progress : Valentines 2022, In-Progress Since Early October, lol!

Not quite finished, but looking fairly good, especially considering back in early October I thought, “Yeah, I can finish this quick then save it for early next year.”

Now, I’m thinking, really? Will I really finally get this finished by January next year, lol!

I did initially make steady if intermittent progress, as these Oct/Nov shots show —

And extra especially from my initial lay-in mid-October of a general heart shape wash —

The development of the painting, from it’s bare pale yellow starkness atop a textured thickness of Light Molding Paste – to the nuanced detailing and color patterns below (detail shot of bottom left) – parallels the whole painting’s visual and ideational progress within myself!

From a bare idea – heart painting for Valentines – to patterns and forms as the colors are tested against the initial wash – to now, detailing the details, lol!

What also evolves, within myself, is not only an evolving concept of the final image (contrast more? soften color edges? and much more!) – but more and more frequently surprising me itself is – ideas from fragments / details of my paintings – for a larger, more simply shaped color field abstract….

Then – I think – those detail out-take shots of the tiny enhancements I make and like so much, those gradations of colors along color field edges and along and beside textural ridges (courtesy of my applied Light Molding Paste patterns), could, might, should, be so much more visible – as a separate painting, on a larger canvas – and become fuller, more easily seen, essential details, of the painting as a whole.

Whew! Glad I wrote that down. Doubt I’ll remember it continuously or long enough without it there to remind me, again, of projects I’d very much like to give a go 😊
