July 07, 2021 – Creating New Version Variations on My Barton Springs Greenbelt Austin Poster Template via the Creation of Just One New Painting, Part 2, Lush

Part 1 in this series goes into more detail of the “why” of doing multiple visual keepers of the differing stages of creating Barton Springs Greenbelt Version 2 ( Version 1’s creation being detailed here ) with each keeper variation of version not only uploaded to Fine Art America (FAA) for prints & gifts, but named differently at the end of the title – Pale Blue and Lush already upload to FAA, and Dappled and Indian Summer still to come 😊

That said (and that was a chunk, lol!) below is a side by side comparison of Pale Blue (right side) and Lush (left side).

Obviously they’re very different from each other —

But they are joined by process.

The pale blue version came 1st, or least after the masking fluid layin throughout the image, and the creation of the line art that was drawn up then printed onto the heavy watercolor paper of course.

If not for the masking fluid in place, I may well have decided Pale Blue was lovely “as is” and finished there. But I well know the perils of trying to leave masking fluid in place, lol!

Otherwise, I truly loved this my Pale Blue rendition ❤️ Soft, flowing, nuanced and evocative of the feel of early morning on the greenbelt….

So with masking fluid firmly in place beneath Pale Blue, I documented the image, making it available on Fine Art America, and proceeded to thoroughly enjoy creating Lush – a full richly expressed rendition I loved in a whole other way – it’s textured natural roughness and swirl of color-energy!

I again was “very” tempted to let the painting be, masking fluid underneath, but knew it wouldn’t hold up either; documented it, and also uploaded it to Fine Art America for prints and gifts.

At this point, I’ve begun removing the masking fluid, and the paint on it, and will pick up this series in a day or so.

The 8 year old is spending the night and I have a dr appt and between the two I’ll probably need a buffer post before how I’ll proceed.

The newly created via virtue of masking fluid removal image may be perfect!

I kinda doubt it, lol!

What and how much work, if any, I’ll add to the newly revealed masking fluid-less image, I’ve no idea yet 😊 Maybe letting the painting sit a day will be good for it, and me, allowing me time to digest the changes. I’d laid the masking fluid on strongly throughout, in directional and strategic modes, and much as I love the rendition Lush, it too will be gone – though preserved digitally for prints and gifts 💕

Wish me luck! Flying by the seat of my masking fluid pants ☺️

ps – anyone notice how much more apparent the “faces” along the lower left side appear vs in Version 1? One face, I’d “kinda” noticed, but now I see two! That’s one thing I do like ’bout Pale Blue vs Lush, how pronounced the 2 faces are in the former vs the latter. We’ll see how that comes out after the masking fluid does its thing.
