I’ve just recently begun letting myself acrylic-free-wheel experiment on what I 1st began experimenting with my watercolors on, little 6×6 inch gallery wrapped canvases, much like my recent post on another painting from this same new batch – The Smile in the Moon .
Mesa Verde in the Beginning is much more abstract, and the result of painting over a botched 1st try on the little gallery wrap block 😊
After studying the painting for a bit, it began to appear as how I remembered a spot I took my kids the summer after I graduated college, 1st graduate of my family! We headed west from Houston and Mesa Verde was one of our locations.
Why that memory-image came to me reminds me of how Joan Mitchell describes how she paints the landscapes inside her. Maybe so. Maybe me too, maybe most of us!
In my case, we hadn’t gone in spring, but the structure of this small painting, it’s texture (via using molding paste & marble dust), reminded me of that time, over half a century ago (late 1970s), and I imagined, that this little image, might kinda be what it looked like when the area wasn’t as barren, providing shelter, elevation above sudden floods, and probably the most spectacular night skies we can only imagine nowadays….
Either way, I find it fascinating ❤️ esp as most the time I keep seeing images in my abstracts ☺️
Below, is a sample of how the image looks on one of the products available at Fine Art America, a mid sized tote bag —

Helping me, in these explorations, is not so much (so far) an instructing or allowing me to do these pigment / texture explorations, ie, readings I’ve been doing about art & blogging about, as that those readings have helped me validate that I’m not just randomly talentlessly (though that could always be true to some degree, lol!) wasting my time, but I truly am following a process we all can and do have within us. As I find out more about other folks living this same process (past & present), I’ll continue to try and share some of that via reblogs, reviews etc – I promise; it helps me remember the insights too ❤️
Enjoy the variety, even if just knowing it’s there, always been there, for all of us 💕
