Though there’s few paintings I keep over an extended time to hopefully work on later – I’ve a Manhattan cathedral oil from 2010, several small oils from 2018-19) – Lady in Paris 1889 is unique in being a larger size (20×20) and acrylic.
Having a canvas (vs paper or panel) and it being larger than my usual the last several years, is allowing me to be more expressive with my brush. I’m probably literally still working too small a brush. But being acrylic (mostly via Arteza, who makes many of the watercolors I also use) also gives me huge leeway in terms of being able to cover previous work, since it dries so quick – thus it’s own advantage on top of what I’ve usually perceived as it’s most disadvantage – no surprise, it dries too quick, lol!
The change from where I left off last year to now (see below) is a little scary, but exhilarating ♥️
In fact, having the choices to be creative with so many mediums (digital to oil to acrylic to watercolor) is proving to be less a hindrance for me, for me anyways, than a boost in exploration & creativity. I’ve allowed myself more freedom to be, well, “almost” surrealistic – at least that’s how this painting is shaping up for me so far. Maybe I can blend the softness I prefer with that style look (or feel)? We will see 😊
Reminds me of what it must be like for two artists’ work I admire and enjoy hearing how they operate : Margaret Hall (versions in various media) and Tiffany Arp-Daleo (mixed media) and Francisco Bravo Cabrera (music and art, often fused together), each of whom I’ve articles about 💕
I may not be able to do much more than a bit more on it later today, but that’s ok. 😊
I’ve much to do with our upcoming move (put in address change via USPS yesterday), plus need to pick my pace back up with my digital line art’s with washes joined to my poems/gift writings.
And looking back at my blog posts and beginning this painting (listed individually below), I realized it was the 1st time working on this acrylic Paris painting in nearly a year! That happens sometimes. And I’m not feeling pressed to finish this any time soon. I feel there’s too much still revealing itself to me ’bout how this is to be painted.
That’s been true of this work since the beginning, when what’s now a “lady” was a bush, lol!
Maybe this particular painting is its own continual April Fool’s prank on me ☺️
