Today Sheila and I took a selection of my prints and originals to the Old Bakery & Emporium.
It was a warm welcoming reminder of what everyone involved with the Old Bakery, artists and personnel alike, have missed for over two years!
Little by little, as I get more information (there’s a range of dates for the soft opening in late June or early July), I’ll be sure and do updates.
Meanwhile, if you’re on FB, their page there is at – https://www.facebook.com/937294929614225/
Website access is at – https://www.austintexas.gov/department/old-bakery-and-emporium
There’s a few new faces there, a couple more coming evidently, plus most of the familiar folks we knew back before the lockdown. I’ll have more on the folks working there over time. Herb, seen below with a sample of the historic items recently added, is listed as Admin, though he’s the only one besides the Program Manager, Herlinda Zamora, who has their own office 😊

Below is the entry level directly off Congress Avenue in downtown Austin.
There’s new lighting, including spot lighting, which will greatly improve the visibility of artists’ work, plus new fans and runner rugs (“very” nice on the feet 😊). This is the main entry point for most visitors to the Emporium.
A variety of other historical items (besides those directly related to when the Old Bakery was an actual functioning bakery in the 1800s) are now being included from the O. Henry museum, also located here in Austin.

Large new black and white photography of what the Old Bakery & Emporium looked like inside in the past are also being hung on the walls and I hope to get some shot of those when I return with some paperwork later this week or next to the Old Bakery.
Below, in the main room for rotating gallery shows (previously monthly, but not sure what the plans are in the near future), with bare walls waiting new art is of course Sheila 😊

And finally, an image I haven’t been able to capture for over two years now, one of the views of the Texas State Capital bldg from inside the Old Bakery. Certainly one of the highlights of any visit ♥️
On a personal note, one of the things I’ve missed most, is being able to, as an artist, go the the Bakery and set up for a few hours and paint – the light, through the tall wide windows, is soft and full, spreading evening throughout all those who visit, and all the art being showcased. Or as per my personal note, being created 😊
Stay creative everyone!
I’ve even been able to grab a few minutes (literally) to paint each the last two days, and it’s amazingly thrilling to once again be happily mired in creative ponderings and explorations 💕
